Understanding the CDS DPF Cleaning Process

Cleaning a diesel particulate filter is different from an on-vehicle regeneration. Regeneration helps burn off soot, but ash remains and requires off-vehicle cleaning. Clean Diesel Specialists describes an eight-step DPF cleaning process:

Initial inspection: Examine the filter for external damage, contamination, and wear.
Record and document: Record initial airflow, weight, and condition to establish a baseline.
Blast cleaning: Use compressed air to dislodge larger soot and ash particles.
Aqueous cleaning: Use water cleaning to remove embedded particles that air cleaning alone may miss.
Drying: Remove residual moisture before further processing.
Thermal treatment: Apply controlled heat to address remaining fine particulates.
Cooling and final checks: Perform final airflow testing and a structural check after cooling.
Packaging and documentation: Seal and label the cleaned filter for transport with documentation of the cleaning results.

Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaning

DOC Cleaning

We offer diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) cleaning for $80. Contact us to discuss your DOC cleaning needs.

EGR Cooler Cleaning

We also offer exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler cleaning for $300. Turnaround: 48 hours.

Drop-Off, Ship-In, Pickup & Delivery

We accept filters dropped off at our South Bend shop or shipped in for cleaning. We also offer free pickup and delivery for DPF cleaning within a 90-mile radius of our shop.
